The Florida “cold snap” this weekend has lows in the 60’s rolling through, producing ideal conditions for sailfish cruising through. Kitefish with goggle eyes in 120-250’ of water, and after your first sail, target a tighter area around that depth. A few dolphin are still in the equation off Palm Beach Inlet, but no strong numbers seem to be showing up.

The snapper bite has been solid lately, with large muttons and yellowtail congregating on the reef. Live ballyhoo, sardines, or midsized pinfish work great.

Inshore fishing has slowed down quite a bit, with Snook and redfish becoming finicky to the tide. You’ll have to feel out each spot for what tide works best, and keep a close eye on it once you

This past weekend, a fleet of 48 boats shed their summer skin to register for this year’s Dust ‘Em Off Sailfish Warmup. A multi-inlet tournament, boats fished from Jupiter Inlet to Islamorada to kick off the sailfish season in South Florida.

With fall weather rolling in, fishing proved to be heating up with a total of 107 sailfish releases. 39’ SeaVee BLUE TALES captained by Samy Arriaga claimed victory with 6 sailfish releases. 48’ Viking DAY SEA captained by Kyle Sherman took second releasing 6 sailfish. Third place was scored this year by ONE UP captained by JC Cleare with 6 sailfish. Kevin Cabrera fishing aboard ANGLER MANAGEMENT claimed top angler with 3 sailfish releases.

This year’s

This Thursday, the professionals' sportfishing magazine InTheBite is hosting a sportfishing social at Blue Pointe Bar and Grill in Tequesta. 

This will be the second of many socials, and gives crews, captains, owners, writers, photographers, and fisherman in the industry a chance to rub elbows and talk fishing.

The social will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, November 15th 2018, and it is open to the public.

Kite fishing with live goggle-eyes or blue runners in 100-300’ should entice a few sails. The Old Bahama Bay Wahoo Charity Cup 2018 will take place on November 15-17th at OBB Resort & Marina in West End Grand Bahama to benefit Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI.

Last year, a total of 23 boats registered, with 18 boats competing in the two-day wahoo tournament. Congratulations to 48’ Viking DAY SEA for taking the first place $21,000 pot home in 2017 with an aggregate weight of 109.6 lbs! DAY SEA’s Andi De Young caught the largest wahoo of the tournament on day 1 with a 48-pounder, and 2nd place went to 40’ Seahunter CORKS CREW with over $8,900 of winnings. 48’ Riviera LLANGUS swept up third place, taking home over $4,200.

The first year of the tournament paid out over $40,000 in prize money and raised over $105,000 for Leukemia and Lymphoma NI.

The bite was scarce last weekend, but it seems to have been picking up this week due to the full moon. A few wahoo are starting to show up from the full moon and mild cold front, especially closer to the Bahamas. Around here, 150-400’ is where wahoo have hooked up along with blackfin tuna. Troll with small feathers at during lowlight for tuna, and use the small ones to catch wahoo. Another option is to pick up a local favorite Junkanoo Lure and high speed troll in a zig-zag pattern. Sailfish are also coming out of the woodwork, and kite fishing with hearty live baits like goggle-eyes or blue runners is your best bet.

Owned by MIASF and produced by Informa Exhibitions, FLIBS is heading into its 59th year, now with more than 1,500 boats on display and 1,200 exhibitors. With the new contract in play, the event will be telecasted by NBC Sports, and will showcase the newest vessels, technical innovations, and performance reviews, as well as highlight South Florida’s enormous amount of lifestyle amenities.

A “Best in Show” trophy has also been created by architectural designer Derek Jenkins, which will be presented to the most innovative new yacht model on display.
